When people set up their website, they usually just use any old category in WordPress.  Many just use the uncategorized initial setup that WordPress comes with. This is a big mistake.  I have found that if you plan your categories and create them beforehand thoroughly, you will benefit from more natural search traffic. If your categories are clearly defined it also helps the visitor find what they want.

By adding categories to your blog that are relevant, they can arrange and clean up everything. If you want both search engines and visitors to be able to navigate your site intuitively, having your content correctly organized is critical. Organization is the name of the game, so get rid of clutter and make it a point to streamline your information. Using the permalink function in WordPress will allow the category to show up in the full URL for every post that you add to your site. This will enhance your SEO efforts, and people who visit your posts will be immediately told what your post is about within the web address.

If you are trying to get ranked for a particular keyword, be sure to make your category title the keyword. because of how WordPress is structured this will put your keyword into the url of every post and page in that category.
